About this trip

This school trip to Barcelona gives students the opportunity to explore a city where modernist architecture, Mediterranean landscapes and urban culture coexist in a dynamic way. Barcelona is a place that combines creativity and history: its medieval quarters, Gaudí’s unmistakable designs and the open space of Montjuïc offer a wide range of learning opportunities for school groups. Over four days, the itinerary introduces students to several layers of the city. They will walk through the Eixample to understand the grid structure of 19th-century urban planning, discover the colours and symbolism of Park Güell, and observe daily life along La Rambla and in El Born. Montjuïc provides a clear setting to discuss cultural identity, while the visit to Camp Nou connects sport, community and the city’s international profile. Workshops such as trencadís mosaic art and castellers offer hands-on experiences that make cultural traditions easier to understand. The variety of activities ensures a balanced educational trip, supporting observation, participation and appreciation of Barcelona’s heritage in a structured and engaging format. Highlights: Visits to Sagrada Família, Park Güell and key modernist sites Exploration of La Rambla, Eixample and Boquería Market Montjuïc, Poble Espanyol and beachfront promenade at Barceloneta Trencadís mosaic workshop Camp Nou visit and castellers workshop Designed specifically to support learning during school trips

Getting around Barcelona

The best way to get around Barcelona is to combine the metro, TMB buses and, for Montjuïc, the funicular. Most of the itinerary stays within 1 fare zone; use the metro for long axes, the bus for Park Güell and Montjuïc, and walk within the Barri Gòtic and the seafront.

Transport networks

TMB Metro

Fast network for crossing the city. Lines L2 and L5 serve the Sagrada Família and Sant Pau; L3 links Passeig de Gràcia, Lesseps/Vallcarca, Paral·lel and Espanya; L4 serves Jaume I and Barceloneta; L9 Sud connects the airport.

Useful lines

L2L3L4L5L9 Sud

In your itinerary

Day 1: L2/L5 for the Sagrada Família and Sant Pau, L3 for Passeig de Gràcia, Park Güell and Montjuïc, L4 for the Barri Gòtic/Jaume I and Barceloneta.

TMB buses

Very useful surface network for uphill approaches and links the metro doesn't serve closely. For Park Güell and Montjuïc it often saves the group a walk.

Useful lines

24V19H6D40150

In your itinerary

Day 1: 24/V19 to approach Park Güell depending on the starting point, H6/D40 as crosstown links and 150 to climb Montjuïc from Plaça Espanya.

Montjuïc funicular

TMB link from Paral·lel up to Montjuïc hill. Integrated in the network, it avoids a long climb before the MNAC, the gardens or the Olympic area.

Useful lines

FML2L3150

In your itinerary

Day 1: take it from Paral·lel if the group goes up Montjuïc; check notices as it can close for maintenance.

FGC and Rodalies

Integrated trains for arrivals, departures or extensions outside the centre. FGC is handy towards Gràcia/Sarrià and Rodalies links Sants, Passeig de Gràcia, Catalunya and the airport.

Useful lines

R2 NordS1S2L6L7

In your itinerary

Day 1: useful if the accommodation is near Sants, Catalunya or Passeig de Gràcia, or if arriving by train via the airport.

Tips for the group

  • For this urban itinerary, count on 1 zone almost always; check zones only if the accommodation or an excursion leaves the central area.
  • The T-casual is single-person: don't use it to pass several students through with the same card.
  • Park Güell sits on a slope; choose buses 24/V19 or allow margin if arriving on L3 via Lesseps or Vallcarca.
  • The Montjuïc funicular avoids part of the climb, but check TMB notices for maintenance closures.
  • On the metro, split the group into small subgroups and agree platform/exit before changing at big stations like Passeig de Gràcia, Catalunya or Sants.
