About this trip

This school trip to Cordoba offers your students a structured and accessible way to explore one of Spain’s most significant historical centres. Cordoba reveals layers of Islamic, Jewish and Christian heritage through its buildings, narrow streets and fortified spaces. The Mosque–Cathedral, with its forest of columns, and the streets of the Jewish Quarter allow students to observe directly how cultural influences shaped daily life in medieval Andalusia. Across four days, the programme connects key historical sites with clear educational value. Medina Azahara introduces the political organisation of the 10th-century Caliphate, while Almodóvar Castle helps students understand medieval defence systems in a very visual way. Smaller sites such as Casa Sefarad and the Chapel of Saint Bartholomew highlight everyday cultural and religious practices within the Jewish community. The final gastronomy workshop allows students to prepare regional dishes such as salmorejo and paella, transforming local food traditions into a practical learning experience. With a balance of guided visits, hands-on activities and opportunities for observation, this itinerary supports meaningful learning within educational trips to Spain. Highlights: Guided visit to the Mosque–Cathedral and Calahorra Tower Exploration of the Jewish Quarter: Casa Sefarad, Synagogue, Chapel of Saint Bartholomew Full-day excursion to Medina Azahara and Almodóvar Castle Educational visit to an olive-oil factory Cooking workshop: salmorejo and paella Clear structure designed specifically for school groups

Getting around Cordoba

Cordoba is mostly visited on foot in the old town; Aucorsa is useful for arrivals via Renfe/the bus station, connections with Colón, Tendillas and the neighbourhoods, and longer journeys on hot days. For Medina Azahara, use the daily bus/shuttle or the group coach rather than relying on a single urban line.

Transport networks

Aucorsa urban network

Municipal bus network with hubs at Renfe, Colón, Tendillas, Fuensanta, Valdeolleros and the Sector Sur. It complements the walking stretches of the old town.

Useful lines

1235781213C2

In your itinerary

Day 1: useful for arrivals from Renfe/the bus station towards Colón, Tendillas or the Paseo de la Victoria. The Judería, the Roman Bridge, the Alcázar and the Mosque-Cathedral are best done on foot.

Line 8 Valdeolleros - Colón - Palmeras

Urban line crossing Colón, Ronda de Tejares, the Paseo de la Victoria, República Argentina and the Avenida Medina Azahara towards Poniente.

Useful lines

8

In your itinerary

Day 1: can help you approach the Paseo de la Victoria - Avenida Medina Azahara axis, but it does not reach the archaeological site.

Line O2 Córdoba - Majaneque - Veredón

Outer line heading west via República Argentina, the Palma del Río road, the Cruce M. Azahara and Córdoba La Vieja. More limited timetables than the central urban lines.

Useful lines

O2

In your itinerary

Day 1: only for very specific logistics in the western corridor. For a school visit to Medina Azahara, it is better to book the daily bus/shuttle or a private coach.

Daily bus to Medina Azahara

Dedicated service from the Paseo de la Victoria/Cruz Roja and the Mercado Victoria to the visitor centre, with a shuttle to the archaeological complex entrance included in the pass.

Useful lines

Bus Diario Medina Azahara

In your itinerary

Day 1: recommended option for Medina Azahara without a coach. For groups of 20+, Turismo de Córdoba requires advance booking with the operator.

Tips for the group

  • Do not plan the old town by bus: with its narrow streets, walking between the Mosque-Cathedral, the Judería, the Alcázar and the Roman Bridge is more efficient.
  • Do not confuse the Avenida Medina Azahara with the archaeological complex; for the site, use the daily bus/shuttle or the coach.
  • The Bono-Bus standard card supports multi-validation, handy for one leader to handle several payments on the same trip.
  • During the May festivals, Holy Week, races and other events, check Aucorsa's service status: diversions through the centre are frequent.
  • In spring and summer, leave margin to walk early in the morning and use the bus for the hottest stretches or towards Renfe/Colón.
