About this trip
A school trip to the Ebro Delta is a four-day outdoor programme in southern Catalonia for secondary school groups, staying with host families in Deltebre. Viajes CumLaude organises it in Spain: we have run school tours from our Barcelona office since 1996, and your group works with a named trip manager here and a 24-hour duty phone.
The programme is lived outdoors: a river cruise down the Ebro to its mouth, a bike ride around the Encanyissada lagoon starting from the Casa de Fusta, an introduction to perxar — the traditional pole-punting way of navigating the delta's shallow waters —, canoeing on the river and a multi-adventure afternoon in Benifallet. The Riumar dunes and the Tancada salt pans complete the discovery of the natural park.
The pace is designed for school groups: short distances, instructors for every activity and a return to host families each evening. It is a destination to connect nature, sport and geography in the field rather than in a museum.

The group arrives in Deltebre in the late morning, meeting the instructors and host families. In the afternoon, a river cruise takes students down the Ebro to its mouth, with explanations of how the delta was formed. The day ends with a visit to the dunes at Riumar beach, before the first dinner with the families.

The morning is devoted to a bike ride around the Encanyissada lagoon, on the cycle path that starts right in front of the Casa de Fusta. After lunch at a delta restaurant, students try perxar, the traditional way of punting across the delta's shallow waters. Return to the host families at the end of the day.

In the morning, a canoeing session on the Ebro led by instructors. After lunch, the group heads upriver to Benifallet for a multi-adventure afternoon: Tibetan bridges, a zip line and segways. Return to Deltebre and evening with the families.

The final morning is devoted to the Tancada salt pans and their delta discovery centre: traditional fishing, salt landscapes and birdwatching from the viewpoints, with flamingos as the stars. After a farewell lunch, the group sets off on the journey home.

Where can students see flamingos in the Ebro Delta?
At the Tancada salt pans, on the last morning of the programme. Its delta discovery centre has viewpoints over the lagoon and flamingos are the birds students spot first. The Encanyissada lagoon, which the group cycles around on the second day, is the other place to look.
